Spain boasts more than 3,000 castles and fortified palaces, so if you have ever dreamed of being married like a princess in a real castle, then make plans today to visit Spain.
It is almost impossible to hold a religious or civil wedding ceremony in a castle in Spain. Spanish law does not allow civil ceremonies to be held outside of a Spanish Civil Registry Office, and the Catholic church generally does not conduct wedding ceremonies outside of church buildings. All religious wedding ceremonies in Spain must be preceded by a civil ceremony. While it may be possible to arrange for a non-Catholic religious wedding ceremony at one of Spain’s magnificent castles, such ceremonies are not common.
However, because of the abundance of castles in Spain and the warm climate and the friendly people, many couples choose to come to Spain for a symbolic castle wedding ceremony.
Many couples choose to hold a symbolic castle wedding with a Renaissance or Middle Ages theme, or a ceremony from another favorite time period. The abundance of castles that are available from a variety of time periods generally makes it quite simple to find a castle to match the time period of the wedding. Often actors are hired to participate in the ceremony, musicians with authentic period instruments are asked to play period music, and everyone dresses in costumes from the time.
A castle wedding often includes a catered meal and a tour of the castle itself. No matter which one of the thousands of available castles in Spain you choose, you can almost certainly count on an abundance of spectacular photo opportunities which will make your castle wedding pictures and videos something to be treasured for years to come.
